I am developing a conservation research program for the NC Aquariums. This is a new direction for the Aquariums, and involves building a diverse portfolio of research projects and engaging partners with the goal of protecting the natural resources of our state. Currently I am working with an aquarium staff committee to develop a strategic conservation research plan to guide the Aquariums as we grow our capacity to conduct scientific research. This plan will expand upon current, ongoing efforts and collaborations, as the Aquariums have a long history of research and education.
Aquarium research areas will include imperiled species, important aquatic habitats and communities, animal wellness, aquaculture of aquarium species and other high priority aquatic conservation issues. We anticipate our research will be conducted with an extensive network of partners from many scientific disciplines. My joint role with NCSU will provide an important link to the academic community and help foster scientific research.
