Rocco Becomes PhD Candidate

Alex Rocco

Congratulations to Alex Rocco who is now a NC State PhD Candidate in Fisheries, Wildlife and Conservation Biology. Rocco’s doctoral advisor is Dr. Jie Cao, assistant professor at The Center for Marine Sciences and Technology (CMAST). Recently, as a research assistant under Cao at CMAST, Rocco’s work has focused on tagging and recapturing blue crabs in local estuaries to provide information on blue crab demographics. Ultimately, results from the project should help improve a more sustainable blue crab fishery in NC.  Who knows what other great research Rocco will do in the future?  But for now, he’s excited and says, “Wow, this just [keeps] going!”
