New Travel Abroad Class Is Successful

Drs. David Eggleston (NC State University CMAST Director) and Lewis Owen (Head of NC State MEAS Department), along with Steve Broadhurst (Dive Safety Officer) taught a Study Abroad course during the Spring semester entitled, “Ecological and Geological Processes in an Immersive Scientific Diving Experience”. The course culminated in an 11-day trip to the Dutch Island of Bonaire in the Caribbean. PhD student, Dan Bowling, assisted in the scientific and dive training components of the project in Bonaire.  A total of 11 undergraduates and 1 graduate student conducted 15-18 dives during the 11-day trip.  Dives ranged from reef surveys of fish, coral and algae, to night dives, deep and wreck dives. Students also learned about the geology and culture of this Dutch Island. The students did a fantastic job and had an amazing experience!
