Research Summary
My research interests can be summarized in two lines. My first research line is on niche tourism and aims at understanding very specialized forms of tourism activities, such as surf tourism. Within this topic, I study the role of tourism in fishing communities, such as the cultural implications of artisanal oyster harvest in North Carolina. My second research line focuses on the motivations and impacts of entrepreneurial efforts among family farms, especially through tourism (i.e., agritourism). I frame my research within the sustainable development paradigm, to have a holistic understanding of the socio-cultural, economic, and environmental implications of tourism development.
