Research Summary

My research focuses on the use of landforms and Earth surface processes to understand the Neogene (last 5 million year) history of coastal margins in tectonically active environments. Along the coastal zone of Washington state, I am investigating the potential coupling between seismic events and upland sediment production via earthquake-triggered landslides. From the Greek island of Crete, I am studying terrestrial and marine sedimentary basin formation above the retreating Hellenic subduction zone. And in both places, I collaborate with archaeologists to improve our understanding of coastal-zone occupation by pre-historic peoples.
